The game was re-issued each year from 1993 to 1998, with a year update appended to each edition. The name comes from Abitur. Entrance to universities in the Federal Republic of Germany is dependent upon the German secondary school leaving certificate, called the Abitur. Students can obtain the Abitur upon successful completion of thirteen years of primary and secondary school and passing grades on the Abitur examination.
